West Alexandria Court rejects AC&CH workers' petition to dissolve Union Committee
News
On November 18, the West Alexandria Court (Circuit 47 Workers) ruled to reject Appeal No. 746/judicial year81 and uphold a previous ruling that had rejected the workers' request to dissolve the union committee of Alexandria Container & Cargo Handling company employees.
Lawyers from the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR), representing Yousry Ma'rouf, an employee of the company, had filed the lawsuit requesting the dissolution of the union committee for numerous legal violations. Such violations include failure to convene the regular general assembly at the times required by law (at least once a year), since 2022, which undermined the assembly's role in overseeing the union committee by monitoring its final accounts, annual budget, and financial control reports issued by the Central Auditing Organization, in violation of Article 30 of the Trade Unions Law.
On January 30, a Court of First Instance dismissed the case, as well as petitions filed by 12 other workers with the same demand, prompting EIPR to appeal the ruling.
